Nashville Stoner Doom Metal band Flummox has been laying down stone grooves and Heavy Metal thunder for over a decade! The self-described “genre-fluid” band has been refining their sound of late and just dropped a fresh new single “The Whispering Banshees” which you can check out today at Ghost Cult! The bands’ new album, Rephlummoxed, releases tomorrow April, 1st, 2022 via Needlejuice Records. Equal parts psychedelic riffs, howling vocals, and general rock n roll majesty, the group has just been added to this years’ Maryland Doom Fest. Check out “The Whispering Banshees” right now!

Alyson Blake Dellinger (lead vocals, bass) (she/they): “The Whispering Banshees” was the first Flummox song that ever existed—the first thing me and [co-founder/guitarist] Drew [Jones] wrote before the band’s first demos. Pre-Flummox, we had this other band, The Fallopian Dudes. Our thing was that we didn’t write songs, we didn’t rehearse—we just showed up and improvised the most obscene, weird shit ever. It was actually a big precursor to our live show now. But Drew and I wanted to write actual music, to be able to perform and show that we weren’t just a bunch of idiots who happened to own instruments; that we were actually capable. We really believed in “Whispering Banshees.” We were 18 at the time, and it’s the song that spawned this band.

Max Mobarry (guitar) (she/they): “The Whispering Banshees” is one of Aly’s strongest vocal performances on the record. It’s an epic, weaving psychedelic riff jungle. And with the whale noises in the middle section—a sound-design contribution from our keyboardist Jesse peck—it makes you feel like you’re underwater, ebbing and flowing beneath the waves. If there’s a term that applies for “Banshees,” it’s definitely “progressive.” It takes you on a journey, but in a more broad metal sense than your usual prog epic. And it’s a nice midpoint for the record—it anchors everything before the back half of the album, which is our more experimental material.”

Bio:

Formed in a rundown trailer near the garbage dump off of an old Tennessee Highway, Flummox has been causing audiences to fall into euphoric fits of shock for close to a decade. Branding their style as “genre-fluid,” Flummox combines twisted musical-theatre tactics with avant-garde fusion & extreme metal stylings set with strange hooks that stick with you well past their welcome.

For their new album, Rephlummoxed, Flummox has re-imagined and re-recorded some of its favorites songs from previous albums.

Flummox caused a stir last year with trans-rights anthem “Trans Girls Need Guns,” which rails against anti-trans violence. The song was released on the 51st anniversary of the Stonewall Riots.

Flummox was just added to the lineup for Doom Fest, coming this June.
