EXCLUSIVE FEATURE: Seven Kingdoms Share a Track-By-Track Breakdown of Their New EP “The Square” – Out Now

Power Metal and sci-fi / fantasy-loving band Seven Kingdoms have dropped their new EP The Square, their first for Reigning Phoenix Music! Save for one classic cover song, the EP is a heady concept album that matches the might of the music! Order and stream the album at the links below and catch the band on tour this weekend!

“The Square”

“The Square” was inspired by an Astrological aspect called a Square, which is a difficult experience. As a professional Tarot reader and practicing Astrologer I have witnessed this experience multiple times over and over with clients and with friends and their chosen significant others. Sometimes the same feelings can be present in a conjunction or opposition, but the Square being the harshest of the experiences. This is depending on the awareness of the people engaging in the relationship. The planets used in the symbolism are Venus (Love) and Pluto (toxicity/power struggles). In Astrology, when these two planets talk negatively, it can sometimes show a highly toxic, codependent, mentally, emotionally or physically damaging relationship. Where those that refuse to let go cause immense pain and suffering to one another. How ghosting and silent treatments can cause mental health issues and anxiety disorders.

“Through These Waves”

“Through These Waves” is about mental confusion and feeling isolated. Feeling as though you’re at rock bottom, but trying to climb your way out, desperately trying to get your head above water. Everyone around you keeps telling you what you already know and it doesn’t help. Only you can save yourself. The feeling of being lost or not understanding what is being experienced. How emotions can become so intense that we can choose to numb ourselves from the pain rather than deal with uncomfortable situations. How we can become so lost in ourselves that those that care about us could scream at the top of their lungs and never be heard. As one is lost in a delusional state of consciousness and a state of mental confusion, that is like being lost in an echo chamber of the mind.

“Wilted Pieces”

“Wilted Pieces” has an 80’s inspired sound with an anthem like quality that may speak to someone with a broken heart searching for healing and understanding on a deeper level. Often times we find ourselves searching for the experience of love outside of ourselves, while never truly learning how to be a source of love for ourselves. Learning to listen to that little voice inside us rather than disregarding it for the sake of a temporary feeling. Knowing that though our eyes can deceive us, our hearts will never lie. Remembering that just because someone didn’t love you, doesn’t mean no one ever will.

“The Serpent and the Lotus”

“The Serpent and the Lotus” is the Awakening. It throws you head first into a revelation. Finally understanding why we needed the experience. Finding peace with the point of the lessons learned. That it’s not the experience that defines you, but what you learned from going through it. Of who you became through the process. You are no longer who you were when you experienced what you did. You now have met your highest self and have learned what you will and will no longer except in your life. Knowing that from this moment forward anyone or anything you choose to be in your life has to bring peace, happiness and joy or it’s not worth it. It has the most Egyptian influence lyrically which was the major inspiration for the imagery for the cover of the EP.

“Kyrie”

Kyrie” is a Cover song chosen by one of our faithful kickstarter backers. We started doing them a few years ago as an option on our kickstarters for fun and to show the musical flexibility of the band. I (Sabrina) have always enjoyed going out to sing karaoke or  covering my favorite songs (I used to post myself singing them before copyright infringement issues took the fun out of it.) This was a fun song to sing and I feel the lyric content is very on point for bands that go on tour. Kyrie translates to “Lord have Mercy” which when driving all around the world at all hours of the day and night, amongst responsible and non responsible people, we put our lives on the line every second we are on the road. I often refer to highways as “The river of idiots” which can be anyone at any given moment.
