The new EP from Church Road Records artists Iron Form titled Cut From Cold Blood is a five-piece band showing off their musical influences and technical merit. Another example of a band breaking through genres by just playing what comes naturally to them in their songwriting process.

At times we are battered by hardcore riffs before a shift comes and something clearly alternative comes at us before we really have a chance to figure out what happened. The cut has a good flow, and this blended genre style allows a certain freedom from what is “expected”. One thing that stands out is the layering. When we first listen to something we may not always pick up on those little touches in the background that when revisited cause us to rewind that part to try and get a better grip on what is going down. I found myself doing this quite a bit with awesome guitar parts and super-tight bass lines going crazy.  

Another honorable mention is the use of the 808 drum machine. I am usually not a fan of the bass drop, or the 808. Perhaps it sounds out of place, but kudos to Iron Form for making it feel like an instrument and something that is actually adding to the songs, not something just tacked on for effect. If you’re looking for a cut that will bring the sounds of late nineties early 2000’s into modernity, then look no further. You will be pleasantly surprised.
