Bloodsurge is set to coincide with a joint autumn tour, pairing two fierce and fiery forces from opposite ends of the globe. Finland’s Det, a power trio delivering Destructive Elite Terror – open the split with three brand-new tracks that tighten the screws further on the vicious, chaotic path their Dying Victims debut album established. Det describe the new material: “We wanted to continue down the same vicious, chaotic path — but we wanted to tighten the screws even further.” Rounding out their side is a live version of early demo banger “Death Night,” recorded at the Catalonia Extreme Gathering festival in Spain earlier this year.
Chile’s Critical Defiance bring three brand-new tracks plus an acoustic instrumental to their half of the split, going right for the throat with a razor-sharp and ripping thrash metal attack. The band describes the collaboration: “These creations were not originally conceived to coexist, yet this split provided the exact space they needed to acquire a shared identity: technical execution, acoustic contrast, the exploration of darker and more extreme territories, and the overwhelming drive of thrash metal in its most violent form.” Of particular note is the acoustic instrumental “Will of Steel,” which poignantly honors thrash’s oft-overlooked tradition of quieter contrast within an album context.
Bloodsurge arrives October 23 on regular black vinyl with insert, poster, sticker, postcard, and download code, and a special red vinyl edition adding a patch. A CD edition with sticker and obi is also available.
