Dark Angel’s Gene Hoglan Remembers Jim Durkin in a New Interview – “…It Breaks Your Heart”

Dark Angel’s drumming icon Gene Hoglan has given a new interview to Metal Hammer Germany about late guitarist Jim Durkin. The band has shared an excerpt of the interview with a few quotes you can read below. The band recently played Jamey Jasta’s Milwaukee Metalfest and performed a tribute show to Jim at Irving Plaza in New York City. Jim had actually not been touring for several years so Heavy Metal guitar legend Laura Christine, Gene’s wife, has been touring with Dark Angel.

“We managed… But we didn’t expect that Jim would suddenly be taken from us. […] So in that sense it was a challenge – trying to put on shows, entertain people and put smiles on their faces, which of course the fans deserve… But inside, it breaks your heart.”

Describing the Dark Angel band members as “tough” but still a family, Gene recounts the journey the group has gone through together in facing the loss of their good friend and bandmate.

“We all have our difficult moments, but we are grown men; we know how to suppress these feelings. But we’re also very good at sharing our feelings with each other. We support each other. That’s what happens when you’re like a family for 40 years…”
