CONCERT REVIEW: Bleed From Within – Disembodied Tyrant – Baest Live at The 1865, Southampton

The sold-out show at The 1865 brought an impressive lineup to the city, with Bleed From Within headlining a night that steadily built in intensity. Fans arrived early, a clear sign that interest extended beyond just the main act, and those who did were rewarded with a strong opening performance from Baest.

Baest served as a reminder of why it pays to catch the openers. The crowd initially appeared reserved, with limited movement beyond the front rows, and it was not immediately obvious how many dedicated fans the band had in attendance. Despite that, Baest approached their set with confidence and persistence. Gradually, they broke through the hesitation, tightening their grip on the room with each track. By the end of their performance, the atmosphere had shifted noticeably. The highlight came when vocalist Simon Olsen stepped into the pit, encouraging a circle pit to form around him while continuing to deliver vocals. The band also leaned into familiar crowd interaction techniques, including getting the audience to crouch before jumping back up in unison. It was a simple but effective moment that helped unify the room. By the time they left the stage, they had clearly won over a large portion of the audience, many of whom will likely return when Baest revisit Southampton later in the year.

Next came Disembodied Tyrant, whose heavier and more abrasive sound marked a distinct shift in tone. One audience member was overheard describing them as “disgusting in the best way,” which felt like an accurate summary of their appeal. Fronted by Donovan Parchment, the band delivered a set packed with intense energy and powerful vocal work. His growls stood out as some of the strongest within the deathcore genre – a genre known for its extremes. The crowd, now fully warmed up, responded with increased enthusiasm. The pits became more animated, with a noticeable shift in atmosphere and intensity. There was a clear sense that the room had gone from cautious observation to full participation, with even those up on the balcony beginning to engage more visibly. Together, Baest and Disembodied Tyrant created a well-paced buildup that set the stage perfectly for the headliners.

When Bleed From Within finally took to the stage, the energy in the room was already high. As the penultimate date of their Dying Sun Tour, named after a track from their album Zenith, the performance carried an added sense of anticipation. They opened with the title track “Zenith,” an immediate statement of intent that set the tone for the rest of the set. From the outset, the band appeared completely in control, balancing technical precision with a strong sense of presence. Their blend of metalcore and Melodic Death Metal felt like a natural culmination of everything that had come before, tying together the evening’s different styles.

Midway through, they played “Invisible Enemy,” dedicating it to fellow Southampton band Bury Tomorrow, a gesture that was warmly received by the local crowd. It was a small but meaningful moment that reinforced the connection between the band and the audience. Not long after, Simon Olsen returned to the stage to join them for “God Complex,” adding an extra layer of excitement to one of the band’s more popular tracks. The collaboration felt natural rather than forced, and the crowd responded accordingly.
As the set progressed, Bleed From Within maintained a consistent level of intensity, rarely allowing the energy to dip. Their pacing ensured that heavier moments were balanced with more melodic passages, giving the audience brief moments to catch their breath before the next surge. By the closing stretch, the room felt fully unified, with crowd participation at its peak and a clear sense of satisfaction among those in attendance.

Overall, it was a well-structured evening that showcased three distinct but complementary acts. By the end of the night, Bleed From Within had delivered a performance that justified the sold-out crowd, while the supporting bands ensured the journey to that point was just as memorable.
