Composer John Lunn and Eivør Share Their New Single and Music Video for “The Last Kingdom: The Beloveds”

Netflix recently announced Seven Kings Must Die, the follow-up film to the hit Viking series The Last Kingdom premiering April 14. The soundtrack to The Last Kingdom: Destiny Is All album is out April 22, 2023 and releasing the single/video “The Last Kingdom: The Beloveds” is out now!  The album was newly created and co-composed by Emmy-winning Scottish composer John Lunn (Downton Abbey), and award-winning Faroese singer-songwriter Eivør, acclaimed for her otherworldly throat singing heard throughout her nine albums, spellbinding live show and her music featured in the God of War Ragnarök video game score and its soundtrack. They also worked with composer Danny Saul and together they evolved the score from Seasons 4, 5 and the upcoming film into stunning, brand new songs that stand on their own– so it is not a traditional soundtrack – it is an immersive, masterful body of work that is a companion album that also transcends the confines of the series. We have followed Eivør’s career closely, recently reviewing her supporting slot on Heilung’s world tour. Stream the single and watch the video now!

Eivør is co-composer of and the only artist/vocalist featured in the music across the entire series of The Last Kingdom. Lunn and Eivør also worked with composer Danny Saul and together they evolved the score from Seasons 4, 5 and the upcoming film into stunning, brand new songs that stand on their own– so it is not a traditional soundtrack – it is an immersive, masterful body of work that is a companion album that also transcends the confines of the series.

“The Last Kingdom: The Beloveds” is rooted in the epic scene which portrays a highly charged moment in which a rogue female Viking named Brida issues a call to war—a scene in which Eivør made a cameo as a member of Brida’s tribe. The lyrics are inspired by Nordic mythology and chanted vocals rooted in Faroese folk music and Nordic sagas that Eivør grew up with in her homeland of the Faroe Islands.
