The Metallica fan club in Colombia, titled “Lords of Hardwire,” launched a special initiative for all of the fans attending Metallica‘s show back on November 1st. The attendees were asked to donate non-perishable food items to help the indigenous Wayuú community in La Guajira, where starvation and malnourishment have become increasing issues. They also approached the band about the idea, and with Metallica‘s approval confirmed, the response from the fan base was amazing. According to RCNRadio, they brought in nine tons of food and other items through the hunger-fighting charity, the Challenger Foundation, and Corazones Peluditos (Furry Hearts), which is an independent organization of 40 families who help feed and re-home abandoned animals. In an area where over 4770 children have passed away due to lack of food and clean drinking water in eight years, this is only a start to fixing the situation, but it’s an amazing gesture by Colombian Metallica family, and something that needs to happen to more often!
