This song to me is kind of like the manifesto for the album. There have been a lot of radical changes in the world since our last release, so I thought it was important for us to come out with something bold,” shares guitarist/co-vocalist Jane No. “We wrote it in response to the inane ‘war on woke’ and people like Elon Musk demonizing empathy and saying that having compassion is weak. This song is a great gut check for the rest of the album … if you relate to what is being said here, I think you’re going to love the record. If it’s pissing you off, don’t care. Didn’t ask.

“Woke Mind Virus” marks the band’s first release since their 2021 singles “TKO” and “No Men”. Fans can look forward to more new music in the coming months, including a full-length record. Cheap Perfume isn’t here to politely ask for your attention—they’re taking it, champagne in hand. Formed in Colorado in 2015, this feminist punk powerhouse delivers razor-sharp riffs and unapologetically political lyrics wrapped in a glittering explosion of riot grrrl energy. Fronted by Stephanie Byrne (vocalist) and Jane No (guitarist/co-vocalist), with Geoff Brent on bass and David “Hott Dave” Grimm on drums, Cheap Perfume is the sound of dismantling oppression while having a good time.

Their debut album, Nailed It (2016), threw punches at sexism, street harassment, and the absurdity of the Trump era, while Burn It Down (2019) blasted white supremacy, championed intersectional feminism and gave us the anti-fascist anthem “It’s Okay to Punch Nazis.” Now, Cheap Perfume returns angrier than ever with their upcoming third album, set for release in fall 2025. Its infectious hooks amplify themes of capitalist exploitation, class solidarity, and the need for direct action and mutual aid as fascism tightens its grip in America.

With their incendiary live shows known for their community spirit and zero tolerance for bullshit, Cheap Perfume has cemented their place as one of the most vital voices in punk. Their forthcoming album isn’t just a record—it’s a rallying cry. Join the resistance; bring a bottle.
