Having appeared in end-of-year lists all over the place, Mansuetude is a massive double album over three sides. There is still a lot to plunder from it, so after four singles revealed during the build-up for the release, the band – fronted by Eugene S. Robinson – is now offering an explosive new video for the track “Drug Burn.”
In an album where pretty much every song is single-worthy, “Drug Burn” manages to stand out for its driving intensity – Eugene’s typically ferocious vocal delivery is matched by Xabier Iriondo’s squealing guitar antics and the drive of the Lombardini/Valente pounding rhythm section. The suitably bleak and menacing narrative of the video comes across nevertheless as oddly beautiful, a game of contrasts just like Buñuel’s music often is. As if anticipation for their forthcoming Roadburn appearance wasn’t high already, after this unexpected treat, we’ll be counting the days left much more thoroughly.
