The notoriously hazardous Norwegians are back to London to headline what could easily be described an evening in the name of pure extremity. Blood Red Throne always leave their marks in every stage they hit and savage with their powerful blend of bold and in your face death metal and plenty of fire and blood…. Emblematically… although their (in)famous and dangerous mosh pits do seem to exhume both elements in abundance at every show. And tonight is no exception: the upper level of the Electrowerkz is a cool spot, small but well set to accommodate both the ravenous eager to mangle the front rows and the ones who prefer to experience the gig from the more unperturbed far end of the venue by the (well stocked) bar. The convoy sets off with an array of unquestionably worthy bands such as Arcania, Anoxide and Unfathomable Ruination and it’s with English brutal thrashers Flayed Disciple that the evening ferociously takes off. Frontman Tim ‘Death Chuggin’ Whyte is all about sharing his ardour with the overheated crowd, no one can deny the sweltering fury he effects as the onstage energy seems to perfectly match the down-front rising craze. Closing their set with a cover of Slayer’s ‘Angel Of Death’ could not have been a better ending and the best way to get both stage and audience ready for the approaching headliner.
Blood Red Throne’s frontman Yngve Bolt Christiansen entrancing exuberance explodes as he introduces his peers like a raw-throated madman: We are Blood Red Throne and we came from Norway is the dead-on ignition. After blasting into ‘Unleashing Hell’ and ‘Exoneration Manifesto’ Blood Red Throne proceed to attack mercilessly with their chest-rattling riffing delivered by a fiery Daniel “Død” Olaisen and assaulting drumming, running through their famed Brutalitarian Regime with their well-known mosh-pit-like-vortex storming vehemence. For some unclear reasons (perhaps because today feels like the first day of a very longed English summer so many are those that step outside to enjoy the feeling) the venue is not full enough towards the end but the spirit of thousands is here. Dazzling: once again Blood Red Throne do not disappoint. The night ends on a hugely uplifting note with Soulseller and Mephitication. The Norwegian destroyers ……..
