Amanda Palmer, in a message to her followers announced the details of her highly-anticipated new album, dropping later this week. Co-written with Palmer’s hero Edward Ka-Spel of The Legendary Pink Dots, I Can Spin A Rainbow will be self-released to her Patreon audience on February 21st and to the rest of the world on February 24th. This is the first new full-length album from Palmer since 2012’s Theater Is Evil.
Here is the message from Palmer with the details on the album:
“greetings from Melbourne, where I’m currently doing a weird combo of touring and hunkering down to get brand-ass new-fangled material written.
if you’re new to the mailing list, WELCOME. it’s nice here.
right now? i am overjoyed. i’ve finally an ENTIRE new album for you, and this one is a life-long dream of mine. i’ll write more about the Making Of when it comes out…but meanwhile.
it’s been a dry season in the new-album department for me since making “Theatre is Evil” in 2012, I’ve put out a LOT of singles (here’s a list of all the flotsam and jetsam i’ve released on patreon) and worked on a ton of cover projects….covering david bowie, covering prince, covering leonard cohen, covering folk songs with my dad, and covering MYSELF (see: “piano is evil”, my “theatre is evil” all-piano covers record that is currently a tour-only CD down here in australia but will be available to The Internetz).
yes: it is TIME FOR NEW MUSIC.
last spring, i hunkered down with my hero, Edward Ka-Spel from the Legendary Pink Dots, and we co-wrote and recorded an entirely new album of original songs.
both edward and i play and sing on the record, and it’s absolutely beautiful – we are both enormously proud of it and i cannot wait for you to hear it.
it’s called “I CAN SPIN A RAINBOW” and here is the cover artwork (painting by Judith Clute):
…that’s the CD track list (and album credits). the double gatefold vinyl has *two* bonus songs: “Subway”, and “The Sun Still Shines”. (and there’s a patron-only 7”with yet more secrets….see below)
the album will be available for pre-order to patrons on feb. 21 (and to everyone on feb. 24) and we are also PLAYING A LIMITED RUN OF SHOWS with violinist patrick q wright (of the pink dots).
now:
if you’re a patron, you are already psyched.
this is a REALLY GOOD TIME to become a patron. we’re almost 9,000 patrons strong and the patreon was the engine that funded the making of this album in the first place.
you can join the patreon for as little as $1 a month (or less, if i skip a month of Thing-ing).
patrons will get:
-first dibs on tickets when they go on sale (and some of these venues are SMALL)
-first crack at pre-ordering the album (on CD and vinyl)
-first dibs on a patron-only (unless there are leftovers) limited edition 7″ record (1,111 copies) , containing songs that aren’t on either the CD or the LP.
…and more importantly, you’ll be part of a really beautiful support network that is funding me, edward, my future collaborators, and all of the filmmakers, artists and staff that are making this whole magical art-making possible.
please join, it would mean the world to me.
