Synth-heavy post-punks, Actors, have released a fresh version of their new single, “In Real Life.” The “Baron of Techno,” Dave Clarke, has remixed the track, just in time for the band’s European tour, kicking off January 31 in Bucharest. Catch the new remix and more from Actors below.
From the first beat, “In Real Life” sinks its hooks deep. A sumptuous, neon-drenched lead synth pulses like a forgotten siren call from some long-lost cyber disco. The remix grips you by the collar and drops you in the middle of a surreal Boiler Room nightmare, packed with writhing silhouettes in CV Dazzle and trench coats, at once warm and menacing. Dave Clarke amplifies the song’s icy edges and builds an atmosphere dripping with psychosexual intensity—a feverish hallucination caught between vintage futurism and dystopian collapse.
The track hums with layers of dissonant nostalgia: the 80s hearken back in its retro-futuristic embellishments, but this is no simple tribute. The synths swell larger than life, bound together by visceral percussion that hits like the industrial clang of a factory floor. Imagine Peter Gabriel’s surrealist music videos reimagined for a legion of shadow-dwelling goths—detached yet magnetic, with textures that seduce from every angle.
Actors’ European tour promises to mirror this immersive, larger-than-life aesthetic. Fans across the continent will experience firsthand the band’s raw power and ability to transform soundscapes into communal fever dreams.
From Vancouver, Canada, Actors electrify with a modern take on post-punk. On debut full-length It Will Come to You, anthemic songs evoke the urgency of early-80’s U2 (Boy, October, War) as well as the driving, synth-drenched scores that emanated from the era’s movie screens. Frontman Jason Corbett’s rich vocals command with all the passion of a young Bono and the coolness of Peter Murphy. Songs like “L’appel du Vide,” “Slaves,” “Face Meets Glass,” and “Bury Me” are bangers that glisten via Corbett’s production job: slamming beats propel warm layers of synth, guitar, and vocals. Corbett writes, produces, mixes, and masters all Actors music at his own Vancouver studio, Jacknife Sound.
