Formed in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, in 2008, Iron Kobra set out with a noble mission: to bring heavy metal back to its unpolished, rough, and weird roots. Influenced by Iron Maiden, Cirith Ungol, Living Death, Manowar, and Tank with a sprinkle of punk, the band built their reputation on catchy yet speedy heavy metal with maximum potential for head-banging, fist-raising, and singing along. After releasing the Cult of the Snake demo in 2009 and the Battlesword EP in 2010, Iron Kobra teamed with Dying Victims Productions for their debut full-length, Dungeon Masters (2012), and the more refined Might and Magic (2015). Years of playing across Europe and venturing as far as Japan cemented their reputation as a formidable live force.
The pandemic years slowed external momentum, but the band kept writing behind the scenes. Eternal Dagger is the result: nine songs of vintage Iron Kobra, immediately recognisable yet more refined than anything they have unleashed before. Produced by Stefan Castevet, known for his work with Vulture and Luzifer, the album explodes with gleaming, glorious production. Speed metal tracks like “Trembling Dungeons” sit alongside NWOBHM-fueled rockers like “Shibuya Nights” and epics like “Mountains of Madness,” evoking Exciter, Brocas Helm, Diamond Head, and early Running Wild while retaining Iron Kobra’s undeniable personality and panache. Eternal Dagger arrives on CD, MC, and vinyl LP via Dying Victims Productions on June 19, alongside simultaneous re-releases of both previous Iron Kobra albums.
