Warrel Dane (Sanctuary, Nevermore) Dies At Age 48

Just when we thought 2017 couldn’t take any more legends from us, we’ve learned that vocalist Warrel Dane had a heart attack last night and could not be rescued. Warrel was in the process of producing his second solo album with guitarist Johnny Moraes, who confirmed the news to UOL, “Tonight he had a heart attack. It was in the flat where he stayed for the recording of the record, when it happened. I got to do cardiac massage, we called the Samu, who arrived very fast, but when they arrived, he had already died. His health was already very weak because of diabetes and his problems with alcoholism. He was already facing many health problems. The record had almost all the instruments completed and we started to record the voice. Much of it was done. Maybe we can count on guests. But there’s nothing official about it.

Warrel Dane‘s legacy is well known throughout the metal scene. From his years with Sanctuary to his time with Nevermore, Warrel’s vocal parts were the stuff of legends. Sanctuary‘s Into the Mirror Black was an instant classic, and once he started Nevermore, his true talents were shown through albums like Dead Heart in a Dead World and This Godless Endeavor. Whether he was screaming high or singing low, his voice was unlike anything we’ve ever heard before, and it’s a shame we won’t hear it again. We want to send our condolences to his family and friends at this time.
