Majestic progressive cult metallers Ulver has booked their first ever show in the USA for next spring. They will make their live debut in the US at Irving Plaza on March 21, 2019, in New York City. Tickets go on sale Friday (10/5) at 10 AM Eastern with an Invisible Oranges presale starting Thursday (10/4) at 10 AM Eastern. More dates seem likely since it’s expensive to travel to the US for an exclusive show. The band is still supporting 2017s widely acclaimed album The Assassination of Julus Ceaser (House Of Mythology). They also released a surprise EP and headlined Roadburn Festival 2017. Ghost Cult has long been Ulver champions through their many eras: kvlt black metal, blackened death metal, progressive rock, post-punk, post-rock, and more. We can’t wait to see what the future holds with new music in 2019. Continue reading

Future Usses – The Existential Haunting
Future Usses is a project featuring members of Intronaut and Bereft and they’ve clearly been putting a lot of thought into their debut, The Existential Haunting (Pelagic). Five years in the making, this is an album which is crafted and defined, but it’s not an album that the casual listener will find rewarding.Continue reading
Emma Ruth Rundle – On Dark Horses
The haunting Goddess that is Emma Ruth Rundle just doesn’t know when to stop. Since releasing an EP as a founder member of The Nocturnes in 2008, she has released a product every year with Post-Rockers Red Sparowes and under her own guises. Oft mentioned in glowing terms alongside such powerful performers as PJ Harvey, Tori Amos and Lana Del Rey, On Dark Horses (Sargent House) is the LA chanteuse’s fourth album under her own name, and is again filled with deep, shuddering emotion.Continue reading
Skyharbor- Sunshine Dust
As a part of the early djent movement of bedroom projects that also birthed the likes of TesseracT, the multinational Skyharbor, despite gaining a decent critical reception, almost feel like the forgotten sons in comparison to many of their peers. Two excellent albums in Blinding White Noise and Guiding Lights (both Basick) saw a particularly innovative approach within that sphere, with increasing progressive influences throughout, yet didn’t see them quite reach the heights of the likes of the aforementioned TesseracT or Monuments. Continue reading
Esben And The Witch Release New Single, New Album Incoming

Foscor – Les Irreals Versions
As the evolution of black metal has seen it move from a primarily raw and aggressive form (albeit with plenty of variation and multiple characters even in its infancy) to the sprawling and multifaceted beast it is today, Catalonian’s Foscor have to undergo significant transformation across their duration. Where their earliest works were arguably considered more archetypal, by the release of last year’s Les Irreals Visions (Season Of Mist) the band had fully morphed to a more blackgaze sound, complete with gloomy atmosphere and the balance between heavy and serene.Continue reading
Russian Circles Book Additional Tour Dates
Post-metal kings Russian Circles are getting set for a west coast co-headline tour with Chelsea Wolfe, labelmates together on Sargent House. Now they have announced a run of solo shows surrounding the tour. These additional dates will bookend the Chelsea Wolfe run and Russian Circles’ time on the road and spans about four weeks in total this September and October. Continue reading
Tides Of Man – Every Nothing
In the second act of their career, former prog rockers turned American post-rock champs Tides Of Man took a long route to their new release Every Nothing (Self-Released). For the uninformed, the proggier climes of their early work on the Sumerian label have been replaced by incredible dreamscapes of post-rock. It’s tough for any band to establish themselves in a style and then take a 180-degree turn, and shift to a totally different sonic palette. However, in this case, the change that began on Young And Courageous was brilliant and for their die-hard fanbase, really transformative. I guess when life gives you lemons and your lead singer leaves you, you make lemonade and become a better band.
Sam Jarvis of Talons Talks New Album – “We All Know”
2018 has, so far, been the year of the Holy Roar, and their collective of alternative takes on challenging and artistic music has seen the label rack up a string of successes with a variety of bands with some very different sounds, all united by a desire to create evocative and provocative music. Sam Jarvis, guitarist of UK post-rock innovators Talons spoke to Ghost Cult to cover all things ‘We All Know’, the band’s third album overall, and first for Holy Roar…Continue reading
Talons – We All Know
At this stage, it is pretty common knowledge that Holy Roar is absolutely killing it this year with their releases. So far in 2018, they have showcased many of the best young, vital and innovative bands across a spectrum of genres, making their infamous logo an undoubted stamp of quality. With this in mind, Talons may not prove the trendiest of bands on the label to many, but their latest effort We All Know (Holy Roar) deserves as much recognition.Continue reading
