Martin Eric Ain, Co-Founder of Celtic Frost, Dead At Age 50

Graber-Smoke

The metal world lost another great one today as news has come down that Martin Eric Ain, influential musician and composer for two of the most influential bands to exist, Celtic Frost and Hellhammer, has passed away from an apparent heart attack in Switzerland. He was 50 years old. Ain’s close friend Jan Graber reported that Ain’s death was sudden and he had no known illnesses.

Thomas Gabriel Fisher a.k.a. Tom G. Warrior, Ain’s partner in Celtic Frost commented:

He was…“deeply affected by [Martin’s] passing. Our relationship was very complex and definitely not free of conflicts, but Martin’s life and mine were very closely intertwined, since we first met in 1982.”

With a nearly 35 year career, Ain helped form two of the most important bands to affect modern extreme metal. Over 11 releases, including guest appearances, he left an indelible mark on music with his bass playing, vocal stylings, and production work.

We send our condolences to Martin’s family, friends, and fans at this difficult time.
