Folk metal ensemble Forgotten Shrine, have introduced their new single, “Terror! At The Ballroom,” with an official lyric video. The two-piece project is comprised of Josh Alexander and Sofia Frasz (Exiled Hope). Check out their new track below and find out more.
Josh Alexander explains, “What started as just a pop punk style guitar riff gradually turned into a piece of musical historical fiction based on the ‘Bal des Ardents’, an event in 1393 where a ball held by the Mad King Charles VI went terribly wrong. The play on words reference to Panic! At The Disco was too good to turn down, but the song itself doesn’t sound like any other pop punk you’ve ever heard. The blending of different musical styles here is something that I’m very proud of.”
Sofia Frasz adds, “When Josh first sent me the instrumental for this song, I thought it sounded like Imaginaerium-era Nightwish, so I built the vocal melody and overall delivery/performance off of stylings that could have worked on that album, as a nod to our influences. It’s catchy, quirky, and tongue-in-cheek on a surface level, but the lyrics tell a darker story. Forgotten Shrine is all about walking that (sometimes fine) line between whimsy and gravity.”
Enter the dancefloor to the sharp sound of marching drums and the immersive soundscape of a hurdy gurdy. Erupting straight into the track’s memorable chorus hook – Forgotten Shrine seamlessly blend an enchanting array of folk and traditional instrumental melodies alongside fierce heaviness. Across the track, clean vocals from both Alexander and Frasz build upon the dynamic layers, while unyielding harsh screams enhance the darkness within “Terror! At The Ballroom”.
